    Various Artists – Rough Imaginary

    ,
On April 15th 2016, we hosted a rare live event at London Fields Brewery with ISAN, Paco Sala, A New Line (Related), and R. Elizabeth. Prior to the concert, the artists came together to create a wonderful collection of rare unreleased and live works that flowed beautifully together and inspired us to create this album in celebration of the coming together of such great artists and friends on a truly wonderful night. We are incredibly proud to present this collective work, 'Rough Imaginary'. - Ian Hawgood

Narcisi & Fidanza – The Accordion Sessions

Deluxe digipak version of this release in an edition of only 100 copies... TRS's latest offering is from Francesco Maria Narcisi & Giacomo Fidanza, and is entitled “The Accordion Sessions”. Giacomo has provided the beautifully dense and drone filled accordion ambiances, and Francesco has worked his magic manipulating and processing these sounds, with added field recordings, into a glorious and at times even industrially fueled, expansive wall of aural bliss and intensity. Melodic, and yet fiercely relentless and driving at times. TRS071 is both a fitting soundtrack to these seemingly overpowering days we live in now, and an avant homage to this favorite instrument of more peacefully innocent and nostalgic times.

The Greatest Hoax – Expiration Compositions

Four panel CD Digipak with clear tray, sleeve printed on the reverse for natural matt finish. Performing as The Greatest Hoax, Washington, D.C.-based composer Taylor Jordan debuts a new conceptual album of contemporary classical music. Produced by Rafael Anton Irisarri, Expiration Compositions, his sophomore album presents a brooding yet hopeful take on a soundtrack to a peaceful death. Jordan displays an innately human fear of death through nine sequential tracks grounded in somber piano and ambient textures. Each composition adds nuanced layers of emotional complexity with the addition of a string quartet led by cellist Mark Bridges of Kranky Records. Expiration Compositions melds a fascination with how life ends with brave imaginations of that very process. The result is an album that disconnects the listener from daily life while guiding them gently through that which most frightens them.

William Ryan Fritch – New Words For Old Wounds

Glass mastered matte finished CD Bandcamp digital download code (320MP3, FLAC, WAV, etc.) Housed in a 7.5" x 5.5" panoramic gatefold case using heavy stock Comes with double-sided full lyrics insert Over the course of the twelve songs that make up 'New Words for Old Wounds', the latest release from William Ryan Fritch, the listener is given both a scintillating reminder of the immersive, unmistakable sound worlds he created over the last two years and a welcome introduction to an expanded sonic palette and refined craft that points to where his music may go next. This parting gift to those that supported his ambitious eleven album subscription series, The Leave Me Sessions merges the colorful orchestration and high drama bombast of 'Heavy' and 'Emptied Animal', the sweeping soundscapes of his finest works for film, and the restrained, nuanced textures of 'Empty' to create its own distinct identity that is both haunting and infectiously exuberant. With guest vocal appearances by DM Stith, Powerdove, and Ceschi, New Words furthers the collaborative spirit found on 'Revisionist' and seamlessly laces each of the artists unique talents into his compositions.

    James Murray – Floods Returned

I've always cared more about what's left unsaid, the less certain truths lightened through nuance not statement. It's unsurprising then that scattered throughout layers of the original twenty-one tracks are half-remembered melodies and fragments of what might have been. I knew the final released mixes could only be versions, as definitive as possible but ever fertile for reweighting, rebalancing and reimagining. Simply to recombine a few elements on many of these productions is to invite another composition to spontaneously unfurl, often equally faithful to the spirit of my intent as the original. Artists are all circling their private collection of hopes, fears, dreams and disappointments, looking at this strange assemblage from every angle, pushing and pulling to see what falls out. It's through this focused, sustained introspection that we occasionally get a glimpse of something beyond ourselves, enough perhaps to convert into something worthwhile to say aloud. I'll continue to look inward in my work in hopes of finding this gold of the soul, but here, now, I invite you back to one of the richest veins I've struck to date; to the waters that submerge, the patient, extended hand and the aching foothills of regret. Floods Returned. - James Murray

Dale Cooper Quartet – Astrild Astrild

The Dale Cooper Quartet & The Dictaphones are returning with their 4th album called "Astrild Astrild". Like all of the previous albums, the band recorded the seven pieces at home in Britanny during several sessions between 2013 and 2016. The characteristics of this full-length are classic drone soundscapes mixed with deep tone saxophone parts that became the band's trademark since the release of their debut album in 2006. Slowly paced, the new tracks are following the Quartet's basic structure and classical sound. Apart from that the new full length conceals more live takes including guitars, bass and Rhodes keys and even piano sounds are haunting for the first time at the end of 'Ocho Acenteur'. With these new elements the songs of "Astrild Astrild" are pushed further into a large tunnel of deafening rhythmic parts and field ambiant textures.

    Orson Hentschel – Electric Stutter

Describing Orson Hentschel only as a composer of contemporary music does not do him justice. In his self-conception as an audio-visual artist he creates his own live show, combining lights, visuals and fog to a stunning atmosphere, which cannot be eluded. Supported by live-drummer Lukas Baumgart, Hentschel delivers a sound, whose energy is physically palpable and electrifies the audience. A live-show generating an intense experience, going to the limit and erasing any sense of time. Orson Hentschel moves perceptions not merely through sheer volume, but with driving repetitions and extensive tension.

Bleach For The Stars – The Time For Silver Flowers

Glass mastered and manufactured CD, comes in a 4 panel CD Card Wallet, shrink-wrapped. Additionally included is a printed card with the poem "The time for silver flowers" by Bleach For The Stars... Bleach For The Stars is the dark ambient, drone & industrial project of Benjamin Power, hailing from the UK. His music is best described as an intense, raw and powerfully emotional journey into the dark regions of his mind. Ben uses his art to deal with his past and his life's experiences. Without going into his personal details it is clear to the listener that Ben has had his fair share of tragedy and bleak moments in life. This results in extremely profound musical pieces that create a mencing feeling but also make you appreciate them as something very pure and unreserved. Seldomly has music been such a direct and stark statement as with this album. "The time for silver flowers" is a therapeutic and dramatic expression by an artist who is truly fascinating.

    Machinefabriek – Crumble

Machinefabriek’s new album, ‘Crumble’, is full of dramatic turns, immersive drones, glitchy electronics and intimate gestures. The long form piece was made by having violin player Anne Bakker and vocalist Edita Karkoschka improvise on an electronic track, and using these recordings (and added electronics and field recordings) to sculpt the 34 minute ‘Crumble’. Rutger Zuydervelt started doing music as Machinefabriek in 2004, and has released a slew of albums since. Besides operating solo (from his homebase Rotterdam or live on stages worldwide), he’s a keen collaborator, working with (electronic, jazz or classical) musicians, film makers as well as choreographers. Rutger didn’t study music, but graduated as a graphic designer.

    Notilus – ST

Notilus is the new project of five established French musicians combining cinematic soundscapes, energetic jazz and atmospheric live electronics. With a decent amount of performances at several French festivals the quintet presents its s/t debut album via Denovali in spring 2017. The cleverly compiled repertoire varies from positively trombone and sax driven jazz parts with a deep sense for sophisticated melodies to calmer, melancholic soundscapes back to beat driven, dynamic, buzzy sound cascades. Sometimes the albums delivers a feeling of a soundtrack for a 70s crime movie - sometimes it sounds like an intergalactic, retro-futuristic trip - always with an ironic and positive view on the own creative work

Nick Webb – Music For Severn Sirens

An atmospheric ambient album featuring 8 distinct tracks from Nick Webb... The title track is based on recordings of the "Severnside Sirens". These are warning sirens based along the coast from Avonmouth towards Clevedon in North Somerset. There are 12 siren stacks which would be used in the event of a chemical leak or fire on Avonmouth docks. The sirens are tested once a month and create a live "Steve Reich" style phase track. You hear the different sound sources coming in and out of phase as the sound travels from the various sirens.

Phil Maguire – Solo Computer Music

Crackles and shapeless tones waft across each other in slow-mo digital drift, motherboard reveries transmitted deep from a hard disk on standby. There’s a satisfying sense of algorithmic self-determination at times here, yet the fact that these two pieces are actually edits of live, human performances in no way detracts from their terse machine anomie. Originally broadcast on BBC Radio 3 in 2016 – a triumph of public service broadcasting! – the first cut, there will be no miracles here, sees Maguire alternating the scuffle and buzz of his software with abrupt snatches of found sound. The disjunction between the two is deliberate, the disembodied voices of Maguire’s samples, possibly clips of old adverts and public information films, bursting out from the dusty blur as if trying to escape from an archive prison.

Limited edition (50 copies only) professionally duplicated CD in case with wraparound sleeve printed on brown sugar paper. Each copy contains a unique genuine Victorian photographic portrait... "This This" is an extraordinary collection of sounds made with a Raspberry Pi (the credit card sized bit of circuitry which is used to teach kids about coding). Maguire manages to create a world of microscopic sounds, clicks, whirrs and fields of electrical noise that are compellingly alien, and yet capture something of the excitement of those early forays into "glitch" music of the mid '90s. It's a whole new delicate beauty..

    Gaetan Gromer – Noise Level

Noise Level is an attempt of sound illustration of this idea and, like in the short story, the library holds a central place. All compositions are built from real sounds recorded in ordinary libraries. After transformation, these heterogeneous sounds blend into a new environment, where a coffee machine might as well be a melodic instrument and the sounds of book handling, a percussion set. The creative gesture then represents a link between the concrete manifestations of reality and the imaginaries…

    Damian Valles – Strand

Strand is a work of brilliance, blurring the boundaries between exceptionally bleak drone and haunted minimal industrial, with mind-numbing static electricity buzzing behind your eyes, motorik rhythms made from detritus tumbling around in empty oil drums, and deep low-end generator thrum vibrating under the sound of hanging scythes clanking like wind chimes, these are the sparse & ominous sounds of the heavy woes carried through life, the ones nobody sees but everybody endures, when you catch a glimpse of Death in your reflection, Valles’ music helps you dismiss it and just focus on the insanity at hand.' - Justin Snow

Limited edition: elegant handmade sleeve with cover album in polaroid format inside the eco packaging… Segmenti is the first album born in 2016 by the artistic collaboration between Giulio Aldinucci and Francis M. Gri. A strong emotional work recorded in a difficult year that has definitely influenced the creative process of the five songs. Earthquakes, terrorist attacks, social fractures, walls, hatred, fear, are tragic events that have certainly shaped the sound of this album. An hypnotic and pulsating sound that combines two different styles naturally balanced in “Segmenti”. Ambient textures and field recordings, piano and guitar are the instruments that the two musicians have used to give rise to an unrelenting flow of kaleidoscopic sound suggestions.

    Scott Sherk – Alentejo

"The Alentejo of Portugal is a sparsely populated area of gentle savannah with cork oak and ancient olive trees.  It has been inhabited since Metholithic times, and is rich in prehistoric stone sites.  Sitting quietly beneath an oak tree one imagines that not much has changed over time. We were lucky to be residents of The Obras Foundation. It is a special place beautifully situated on a hillside overlooking pastures, tangled gorges, orchards, and a distant castle.  There is little sound—except the wind.  It is a place to clear your head and regain the ability to listen to the world around, as well as the landscape within. I walked through the dry, dusty fields, mesmerized by their stillness, except for the wind.  When the wind came, it swept across the fields in waves that the dry grass made visible.  I was excited by the tangible experience of the space around me.  I could see it, feel it and hear it. As I was making recordings, Pat Badt was painting notes of color.  Taken by the intensity of the light and the endless sky, she painted many, many paper sketches of color and form...

Sound Meccano – Salty Wind / Inner Fire

Sound Meccano is an alias of Rostislav Rekuta, a seasoned sound designer and field recordist from Riga, Latvia, who's been making electronic, electroacoustic and ambient music since 1999, most often - in collaborations with various local musicians. While this name might not yet ring a loud bell worldwide and the number of records released till now has been sparse, it was definitely not because of lack of quality or work put into the music. In fact, it's the opposite, and hopefully the recent string of releases might change that. Continuing the collaboration with the fellow ambient guitarist Jura Laiva (whose alias is a pun on his first name and words in Latvian, and which loosely translates as Sea Boat), first documented on 2 recent EPs on Crónica and Flaming Pines, Sound Meccano presents the first full-length album of this configuration.

Time collapses. - AT Similarly, this album is my necessary attempt to distill individual sights, sounds, and feelings from December 2015 – October 2016 into a tangible collection. Snufmumriko – At First Light

Professionally manufactured high quality CDr's, limited to 40 copies. Handmade artwork, each hand numbered. Brown kraft wallets with envelopes. Wallets 250g paper, outside cover envelope 120g paper, transparent bag... One of the themes of this album is, I would say, dawn, new beginnings, taking the first steps on a new journey and so on, and many of the sounds used on it were recorded early in the morning. Several feature water, be it rain or a gently burbling forest stream. The recorded sounds were then processed in various ways to create soundscapes which hopefully have something of the life and organic feel of nature in them. A commentator online once described my Snufmumriko music as ”soundscape cloth woven from field recordings” or something along those lines, and i think that’s an apt description. There’s also an almost spiritual dimension to these tracks, and I was often in a very introspective mood as I created them. - SM
