Mikael Lind – Unsettled Beings
CDThe title of Mikael Lind’s latest album, Unsettled Beings, is a reference to his restless self. Mikael is Swedish, but has lived and worked in Iceland since 2006. The interesting thing about his new release, is that all the people involved in realizing the music are also foreigners living in Iceland. Paul Evans from Greenhouse Studios played the violin and also mixed the album. Ryan Karazija, who is doing very well in Iceland with his band Low Roar, lent his vocals to four of the tracks. Alex Somers from Riceboy Sleeps, producer of several important new musical acts in Iceland, mastered the album. The basic idea of the album is a core of several different pianos accompanied by a lush pattern of violins. The pianos are of varying character, and their melodies often intertwine in a poly-rhythmic fashion, giving the listener the option of letting different melodies compete for attention. Ryan’s vocals add warmth to the songs, ornamented with Paul’s violins – sometimes in a call-response aesthetics.£10.00 -

CDThis is the standard sleeved version of the The Inventors Of Aircraft release, “Where The Light Stops”. Each factory pressed disc comes in a hand printed/stamped white sleeve. Plinth – Collected Machine Music
CD, SaleBack in stock: Digipak run of 200 copies… This disc contains both remastered versions of the 8 songs that were on the ridiculously limited “Plays Victorian Machine Music” ep, that came out on the Rusted Rail label sometime back, and 7 new songs also created using old victorian music boxes, calliopes, and other wheezing mechanisms. The philosopher, social critic and journalist Walter Benjamin once suggested that the assorted detritus of the 19th Century bourgeoisie – the knick-knacks, toys, trinkets, mechanical amusements, photographs – could, when “blasted” out of their original historical context as kitsch distractions by means of critical analysis, reveal something significant about both their own age and also that of the present. This notion developed into The Arcades Project, an extensive, wide-ranging exploration of bourgeois social history centred around the Parisian arcades.£5.00
