Jason Calhoun – Introduction To An Apology

Limited to 100 copies: LP with 2-sided colour insert... The hallmark of jason calhoun's music--either under his given name or under the naps alias--is an emotional resonance that allows fragility and perseverance to occupy the same space. Though humble in his approach, calhoun has done something quietly extraordinary in building a body of work that, unlike so much music that seeks to transport you elsewhere, instead asks you to check in with yourself. Recent cassette releases have found him pushing composition lengths to 20 or even 30 minutes; for his first LP, introduction to an apology, he has done the opposite, bringing a sense of concision and focus to this collection of pieces, with every moment material. Those familiar with calhoun's music will recognize the gentle purrs of melody here, the restless hiss of seeking connections, and the evocation of people and places that feels especially meaningful in the context of the pandemic. Some tracks are postcard-like in their brevity and sense of tidings, while others shift the listener into a denser headspace, generously allowing for more sustained reflection. From its yawning opening tones to its final, outstretched moments, this is an album that invites gratitude and grace.

    Ned Milligan – Enter Outside

LP limited to 100 copies: Comes with 2-sided colour insert and liner notes. In recent years, Ned Milligan has pursued composition almost exclusively through chimes and cassette tape. Emphasizing live performance, this music was defined by equal parts improvisation and careful curation. His new LP, Enter Outside, demonstrates the tonal and textural qualities found on those recordings while expanding his palette with the inclusion of a singing drum. The title of this album--which can be interpreted as a directive, suggestion, or invitation--embodies the feel of these pieces and how much the music employs outdoor elements not as a mere backdrop, but as a collaborator. As with Milligan's prior albums on Fluid Audio, Gertrude Tapes, and Florabelle, most of Enter Outside was recorded on a rural porch in Maine with additional processing afterwards. Each track offers a gentle immersion into his environment and gradually encourages it to become yours as well, while the gentle racket of the world hums along. There is a fundamentally bristling beauty to this album's core and its ability to let the listener experience its space as a living thing.

    Josh Mason – Coquina Dose

Comes with a two-sided insert as well as a download code. Includes unlimited streaming of Coquina Dose via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more. Coquina Dose is an album of uncommonly intimate gestures and reflections, many of which are inspired by Josh Mason’s lifelong home of Florida—what it means to live there, other people’s perceptions of it, and its unofficial status a “humidity kingdom.” In evoking this atmosphere, Mason utilizes guitar and tape, which has been so emblematic of his work, but also further engages with new ideas in synthesis, and even the bio-feedback of plants. The processes are fascinating but ultimately secondary to the emotional tenor of the album. It’s remarkable how gentle, reflective, and quivering—really, how alive this music is.

    Wil Bolton – Cumulus Sketches

Cumulus Sketches is immediately expansive, with spread-out, immersive melodies and an oriental atmosphere. In general, the music is tranquil, restorative, and healthy, and the tracks are given time to properly develop, feeling more like fully-grown pieces and less like the sketches of its title. The blurred effect of reverb only adds to the dream, making Cumulus Sketches the perfect soundtrack for cloud gazing.

'Light' is the long-awaited follow-up to Chronovalve's Home Normal debut 'Trace of Light'. Released in 2013, the album was met with critical acclaim and 'Light' continues this work with positivity of spirit and open-hearted ambient refrains. 'Even in the most ordinary moments of life, one can get a feeling that there is an inspiration, a light trying to reach through to us. A person, a place, a sound or a song might unexpectedly open us to that light. These songs are inspired by, and explore that experience…that hope… that possibility...' - Mike Engebretson (Chronovalve)

Phil Tomsett & The Inventors of Aircraft – The Last Things

Another elegant addition to our jackdaw-style series, this 3 disc set is partly inspired by the novella “In the Country of Last Things” by Paul Auster. Journeying from a chaotic and poisoned metropolis to the foreboding loneliness of the countryside, “The Last Things” presents a personal struggle through hum, thunder and dread. The collection plays out as if the book itself has been buried deep in the ground and unearthed many years later, the soil having transformed the words into fragments of sound.

acked with movement and dynamics, Verwoben swerves between the apparent, abstract and engagingly abstruse via pensive electronics, contemporary rumblings and harsher sections all swirling around the home base of Martina’s voice, that always lends the album a warmth even as the sound moves further and further out into more shadowy and desolate spaces.

    Ishmael Cormack – Maple Finch

Maple Finch was conceived through multiple thought channels with an approach to nature and the outdoors, the six pieces of work have a familiar theme running through them. From the perspective of the bird and its surroundings and habitat to technical elements which are in-turn connected to organic field recordings, reverbs and natural noise created during the process. Maple Finch integrates real-time-playback, multi-layered tape loops and acoustic elements along with intricate sound design - giving it a warm and uncondensed edge. A beating heart and cosmic soul can be heard running through the duration of Maple Finch, this will eventually be part of an installation - a series of vessels that contain the items that the Finch will collect during springtime, items which are essential for nest building for their offspring. The journey of the full-length release brings-together elements of spring, new life, adventure and a meditative journey through the season. It is released to coincide with astronomical spring in the UK.

Davis / Zuydervelt / Fabriek – Bij Wat Ook Moog

Rutger Zuydervelt (Machinefabriek), Gareth Davis, and drummer Leo Fabriek bring these people to life with a bass clarinet, broken drum loops and evolving, modern electronics, telling the personal stories of young athletes caught up in the eye of the storm, namely the unrelenting glare of life under the microscope in the 21st Century. Local and national attention, rivalries, and social pressures are at war with the desire for self-improvement and eventual victory, both on the pitch and in their personal lives. The soundtrack rises and falls, lulls and spikes with optismistic interludes, troughs of self-doubt and hardship, and the grinding out of hours and hours spent in practice. The score never tires, though. As with all book editions, the central theme is fragility, family and times long past. Old books have been dismantled / reassembled to present something new. The vintage books, photos and cine-film have once again come from an auction that was sold by one family, giving the album a sense of deep sentimental value! The design also features vintage prints, hand numbered library cards, stamps and book-marks that all rest inside stitched wax bags. Extremely limited... Each copy is completely unique and different from the next.

offthesky & Bill Seaman – Layers of Memory…

Transience is also felt in music, which is never stationary. The tones are always moving, receding further and further into the distance, like that one experience, like that single moment. Longing can replace logic in the blink of an eye, but sadness doesn’t seem to coat the music, and it doesn’t want to – it’s a realistic and accepting sound, looking back on events with some slice of inevitable nostalgia, but keeping an eye on the present, too. The past has power in reeling people back into its history. Building on the theme of memories past and fragmented fragility, we have come up with something that perfectly captures the audio exploration of 'Layers of Memory in the Quiet Voice of Motion'... old / vintage 7" vinyl, taken from a family collection of classical music has been used as the back-drop for a design that also includes CDs housed in circular see-through covers, oversized vintage prints, vintage ephemera, vintage cine-film strips, film negatives and antique photos. All of the above comes from the same family collection.

Tropic of Coldness – Maps Of Reason

"Maps of reason" is the new album by the duo Gutman / La Placa, a mature work of rare sensitivity that manages to combine all the nuances of the soul as points of a map that every human being hides inside. A deep and layered album that struck me from the first moment and that continues to affect me with new details that emerge with each listening. There are works that are born perfectly aligned with the creative flow, capable with their inspiring charge of really carrying the listener to far away places. I believe that "Maps of reason" has this inner strength and in a world so overflowing with soulless music it is truly an unexpected gift.

    Erik Levander – Inåt

The album title 'Inåt', translating 'Inwards', refers to the introspectiveness of the compositions, drawing inspiration from personal struggles in everyday life. The track titles and music cycles point to another layer of context with the ongoing pattern in politics, and of people turning inward, being somewhat inescapable. A more synth heavy release than 2018's 'Couesnon', Inåt still features a vibrant blend of digital, analog and acoustic sounds. The clarinet is present at times, but also traces of other acoustic sources, all put through their paces with everything from guitar pedals to digital processing utilised, as Erik twists them into some wonderful tones, trails and timbres.

Seasons (pre-din) – Distortion Of The Cell

The latest addition to the mysterious Mancunian’s catalogue is a varied release that takes in several stylistic approaches while remaining a coherent listen. Roughly half the album is focused on a meld of post-punk and dingy club influenced beats propelling the atmospherics that range from warm and engaging to full throttle and abrasive. The beatless interludes and final stretch take in some more restrained ambience as well as some searing efforts in that cross section between drone and the warmer end of the noise spectrum. There's a thematic and musical twisting of the lines that hints at a corruption at source and of self, and if you're in a good mood an eventual dissolution in the soaring static.

Hipnotic Earth – Suspended In Silence

Hipnotic Earth is an electro-acoustic ambient soundscape project birthed from a deep need for quiet, slow motion music; from a carnal urge toward silence. California, USA based artist Cosmos Rennert’s project began dramatically when in 2015 the scheduled release of his debut album ‘Essence’ was missed when his home in the hot springs of Harbin, Northern California burned down in a sudden wildfire which swept the community. His home, studio, possessions, work place and the tiny town in which he lived succumbed to the flames. He is now deeply grateful to be able to continue recording and we’re pleased to present, a record which sees a departure from Cosmos’ usual style of sleepy drones.

Arovane & Mike Lazarev – Aeon

"In December of 2017, Uwe and I started working on a project developing a particular musical language in exchange of thematic ideas. In my London studio, I would record minimal piano pieces, often late at night, sometimes with the windows open, to capture every sound resonating from the instrument. Uwe would deconstruct these compositions even further, extracting the brush of my fingers, the fall of the hammers, the breath of the strings. We both aspired to delve into this instrument and play with all of the sounds living within, as heard from the inside. Many ideas would come from Uwe in the form of a sketch, an aural vocabulary, or a sonic brochure, which I would interpret through a pair of closely placed microphones. There are even fewer melodies and even more spacial pianism on here than in my previous solo reductionist works, which Uwe so masterfully extracted with his experienced ear. In this incredible partnership, we have discovered a new dimension within the piano, which we are honoured to share with you" - Mike Lazarev

    Michael Cutting – Luft

LUFT is the second solo release of Salford-based tape musician Michael Cutting. Continuing his experiments with reel-to-reel recorders, LUFT revels in the imperfections of degrading tape, faltering machines and roughly spliced loops to conjure an intimate yet visceral sonic landscape peppered with tape flutter, crackles and unsteady self-replications. At the centre is the dusty wheezing of a 19th Century organ, with the clicking of its rusty bellows providing much of the music’s rhythmic impetus while its piercing reeds underpin a gently microtonal harmonic language. Complemented at different times by an e-bowed violin, fender rhodes, clarinet, trumpet, sine tone generator and voice, the album’s seven tracks evoke a quiet, imagined journey, a journey both personal and geographical.

    Otto Solange – шон

"I’ve decided in 2019 to release some of the pieces of works recorded from 2013 to 2015 to let an imprint from this period and give a life to an other side of my sound works, more unknown by people who follow my other sounds projects. I've travelled a lot at this time and also, this period was precisely at the middle of a great change in my life. My son was born at the end of 2015 and a big part of these works have been recorded for him, with probably some memories from my previous journeys around the world." "All have been composed and recorded at home with a set of many electronic hardwares and no laptop (samplers, effects and loops).
