Phil Tomsett & The Inventors of Aircraft – The Last Things
DeluxeAnother elegant addition to our jackdaw-style series, this 3 disc set is partly inspired by the novella “In the Country of Last Things” by Paul Auster. Journeying from a chaotic and poisoned metropolis to the foreboding loneliness of the countryside, “The Last Things” presents a personal struggle through hum, thunder and dread. The collection plays out as if the book itself has been buried deep in the ground and unearthed many years later, the soil having transformed the words into fragments of sound.£15.00 -
Ishmael Cormack – Maple Finch
DeluxeMaple Finch was conceived through multiple thought channels with an approach to nature and the outdoors, the six pieces of work have a familiar theme running through them. From the perspective of the bird and its surroundings and habitat to technical elements which are in-turn connected to organic field recordings, reverbs and natural noise created during the process. Maple Finch integrates real-time-playback, multi-layered tape loops and acoustic elements along with intricate sound design - giving it a warm and uncondensed edge. A beating heart and cosmic soul can be heard running through the duration of Maple Finch, this will eventually be part of an installation - a series of vessels that contain the items that the Finch will collect during springtime, items which are essential for nest building for their offspring. The journey of the full-length release brings-together elements of spring, new life, adventure and a meditative journey through the season. It is released to coincide with astronomical spring in the UK.£14.00 -
Davis / Zuydervelt / Fabriek – Bij Wat Ook Moog
DeluxeRutger Zuydervelt (Machinefabriek), Gareth Davis, and drummer Leo Fabriek bring these people to life with a bass clarinet, broken drum loops and evolving, modern electronics, telling the personal stories of young athletes caught up in the eye of the storm, namely the unrelenting glare of life under the microscope in the 21st Century. Local and national attention, rivalries, and social pressures are at war with the desire for self-improvement and eventual victory, both on the pitch and in their personal lives. The soundtrack rises and falls, lulls and spikes with optismistic interludes, troughs of self-doubt and hardship, and the grinding out of hours and hours spent in practice. The score never tires, though. As with all book editions, the central theme is fragility, family and times long past. Old books have been dismantled / reassembled to present something new. The vintage books, photos and cine-film have once again come from an auction that was sold by one family, giving the album a sense of deep sentimental value! The design also features vintage prints, hand numbered library cards, stamps and book-marks that all rest inside stitched wax bags. Extremely limited... Each copy is completely unique and different from the next.£25.00 -
offthesky & Bill Seaman – Layers of Memory…
DeluxeTransience is also felt in music, which is never stationary. The tones are always moving, receding further and further into the distance, like that one experience, like that single moment. Longing can replace logic in the blink of an eye, but sadness doesn’t seem to coat the music, and it doesn’t want to – it’s a realistic and accepting sound, looking back on events with some slice of inevitable nostalgia, but keeping an eye on the present, too. The past has power in reeling people back into its history. Building on the theme of memories past and fragmented fragility, we have come up with something that perfectly captures the audio exploration of 'Layers of Memory in the Quiet Voice of Motion'... old / vintage 7" vinyl, taken from a family collection of classical music has been used as the back-drop for a design that also includes CDs housed in circular see-through covers, oversized vintage prints, vintage ephemera, vintage cine-film strips, film negatives and antique photos. All of the above comes from the same family collection.£25.00 -

Alaskan Tapes – You Were Always An Island
CD, DeluxeYou Were Always An Island opens with a downpour of rain. Staring out at its constant fall, listeners can only wait for it to stop. The music’s already waiting: for someone, and for a moment that will never arrive… Alaskan Tapes aids in the clear-up operation, helping to cleanse the air if not the growing solitude. Quiet drones and sullen strings dispel the rain, but it lingers in the streets, overflowing around the mouth of its gutter. The music has been invaded by a longing which spreads like a tendril of ink in clear water, bruising the atmosphere with its purple, sour colour. An event shakes the soul with the magnitude of an earthquake. In this case, the cruelty of distance and the greater cruelty of war which separates a couple. As a man leaves to fight, his beloved has no other choice but to wait for his return. She sends unanswered prayers. His absence grows longer with every sunset. Unable to wait and growing increasingly anxious, she sets off to look for him, a lighthouse offering a faint lifeline in the gathering gloom, only to sadly learn of his death. The separation is permanent – death us do part.£25.00 -

A well-travelled man, 'His Many Seas' sets sail to quietly conquer and navigate another unexplored, painful continent: the frightening landmass of coming to terms with his father’s illness, steering through the trials of life as well as acting as a dedication to his father’s love of travelling. Tropic of Coldness is a Brussels-based ambient/experimental duo, formed by David and Giovanni, who met by chance, or maybe not, during the autumn of 2011. “Deplaces” is their fourth album, and it has been conceived as a reflection on both their five years working together and their relationship with the city of Brussels. "Vantage Points" is an album about place, meaning, and translation. It is literally a tape reel playing back my memories. When recording this album, I heavily manipulated field recordings from several places relevant to me. Some sounds were trivial, some were remarkable, but each one came from a place that has had a very specific and powerful impact on my life; impacts that I can't necessarily describe in words. I recommend it be played quietly, as a low-volume companion for your dreams and reflections...£8.00 -
Gipsi – Sleepy Follow (Tape)
TapePro dubbed cassettes by Bandjesfabriek, C43, solid white, Norelco smokey clear box, Photo insert with track list, different hand made covers with skeleton leave included. Limited to 12 copies. “After the death of someone very close to me, I was, at times, so emotionally disorientated that some days I could barely take it. As music is my only creative output, I decided to make an album honoring this person: inescapably mournful but, ultimately, sanguine. Sleepy Follow is me channeling both memories and nightmares. There’s an oppressive repetitiveness to grief that lulls you into a sort of trance-like submission; that’s pretty much how these pieces were born. Every vibration of a guitar string and every reverb-drenched pad is entwined with the prosaic tedium of loss”.£8.00 -
Guiseppe Cordaro – 45°12′N 72°54′E
CD, DeluxeMade by hand... Hand made book-bound covers (1260 g/qm FSC certified), lined inside with luxury Italian paper from Florence, sealed with washi tape, glass mastered CD (not CDR), antique glass slide (circa. 1910-1955), 5 x embryology prints, insert from antique embryology book, dried lavender, dried herbs, scent. All rests inside stitched glassine bags. Individually numbered / tagged / sealed. Made with love... Arising out of a womb-like, silent void comes Guiseppe Cordaro’s 45°12′N 72°54′E, blinking into life and exploring the cyclical lineage of a new birth, a recent ending, and the never-ending flow of life’s river. Water both sustains life and erodes it. Like the crumbling and disfigured coastlines, she either laps against the throat or chokes it, providing nourishment or eating away at the body, either satiating a deep thirst and keeping organisms alive or discovering a grisly penchant for murder in death by way of drowning. Barriers barely hold back Cordaro’s roiling waves of modular synth, a thrusting, unstoppable power rolling around in the pit of the music, capable of collapsing sounds, but also capable of reshaping their architecture.£20.00 -

Bill Seaman – The Epiphanies
CD, DeluxeThe Epiphanies sees Bill Seaman in fine fettle, driving along phosphorescent-lit roads marked by the heavy dew of mystery and slow-to-develop intrigue. Delayed secrets are now only coming to light. The setting sun is the glorious backdrop as The Epiphanies coasts along a deserted road, its dark road-trip music glinting like the lightless, metallic chrome of the car’s body. A pack of coyotes come out to play, and further down the road some lusty, post-jazz musings at a local bar hint at dark dislocations. Nothing is right – the neon sign is too bright and things are a little off-kilter. Reality slips slowly away, like water through the fingers, drained as if from the last bottle of whiskey, until it can’t be grasped at any longer. The sick, cloying perfume of cigarette smoke hangs in the air like a tired apparition. The lingering, too-wide smile of a cute bartender with a string of strange tattoos along her back and an old episode of Tiny Toon Adventures (circa 1990) rather than the latest game from the NHL graces the television’s pulpit, adding to the subtle sense of dislocation, and the music only gets darker, its dying light duelling with the fading sunset. The headlights are a lonely splash of colour at two in the morning, and as the music enters the long hours a velvet-smooth carpet of asphalt spreads out before the listener, the unfolding ambient textures helping to shape a smooth, virgin-pure road. Dark wet trees and swaying branches are illuminated as the car drives through an eerie, sleeping town, with nothing but a slumping, somnambulant piano strolling up and down the dark, leaf-strewn sidewalk. Distant notes seem to croon into the space, somehow filtering in through the dead radio that needed replacing months ago, luring you into its monochromatic musical world. You are the first visitor. You are also the last. There isn’t any other traffic…£20.00 -
Sontag Shogun + Moskitoo – The Things We Let Fall Apart / The Thunderswan
VinylPre-order: release date 15.11.17... 'An utterly affectionate and adorable aural apparition, ‘the things we let fall apart’ emerging frosted and fragile, delicately sculptured in thawing ice tones, the symphonics delicately shy eyed and whispered are breathlessly beguiled by a graceful neo classical hush, the effect really is entrancing as it is teasingly brief, sitting somewhere between a very youthful Mum and Smile Down Upon Us. ‘thunderswan’ over on the flip is expressed with the kind of poise and musical poetry that shimmers and twinkles to those early post YMO outings from Ryuichi Sakamoto, its minimal toning sweetly gathering to blossom into caressing cinematic crushes dappled in surrendering sepia hazes, a most exquisite and rarefied thing of bewitching beauty.' - The Sunday Experience (Mark Losing Today)£6.00 -
Steven Kemner – Gradation Movements
CD, DeluxeYou can’t predict the weather. Sometimes, life throws something at you. When it does – not if but when - hopes and expectations lie like shattered spokes. Is it fate, destiny, or circumstance? No one knows, but paths can change when there’s a sudden shift in the weather, and something that once seemed so sure and stable starts to become the opposite: uncertain and unfair. Promises peter out as a drop of rain appears. You have to stop and change course. A natural disaster plunges normality into desolation, and the same is true of our longed-for futures which so often disappear into the ether. Disappointment ensures: inclement weather. You can’t prepare for it; the hurricane warning arrived too late. Steven Kemner recently went through such a change: “I needed to move away from everything that I loved to a place I had no desire to go. This change complicated music, life and a sense of belonging”. - Steven Kemner Like the changing of the weather, ironclad clouds can appear from out of nowhere, eclipsing the sun with blackened totality, and the deep, roiling textures within the music of Gradation Movements are full of rain and turmoil, of leaving and moving on. The slow swells and hard-fought movements are indicative of clouded spells which obdurately block out the blue hope of the sky like a cruel shield. Coated in sleek silver, the notes shadow the steps of the people below. Rainy season stalks the soul; it doesn’t seem to matter where the notes walk, because the cloud always follows, indiscriminate with its downpours of rain and its trident spears of lightning. Rainfall is needed in order to grow, and that includes us. The rainy spells can make us stronger, helping us to rise up in troubling times…but too much of it, and we drown. The cirrus patterns and the cycling of the wind may be hard to understand – we may never understand – but they still have a purpose. The purpose may seem obscure, but it’s there. There’s a strong energy at work within them, and troubled times often reveal things that, in hindsight, we later come to appreciate. When sunlight fails, the music’s tones lie hidden in a shroud of slow mist. The clouds don’t always disperse. You can’t predict the future - you just have to roll with it until you finally come to terms with the strange weather.£20.00 -

From the Mouth of the Sun – Hymn Binding
DeluxeHoused in a heavy stock, handcrafted 7" x 5" book-style case with download card for the album in high quality format. Edition of 150 copies! ‘Hymn Binding’ is the pair’s third album as From the Mouth of the Sun, and their first for US label, Lost Tribe Sound. The album is teeming with all the soul-stirring character one has come to expect from their work together. The long form crescendos built from Martin’s mournful strings and vast array of acoustic instrumentation are a perfect compliment to Rosenqvist’s delicate piano melodies, humming electronics, and waves of warm static. At the core, From the Mouth of the Sun’s sound is comprised of cello, piano, acoustic guitars, lap steel, banjo, ukulele and pump organ. Yet with ‘Hymn Binding’ they’ve allowed those acoustic sources to change shape, at times turning them into something that more resembles synths or digitally rendered sounds. They do this, not as a means of disguising them, or really wanting them to sound like synths, but to bring out new layers from already existing timbres.£15.00 -
Alder & Ash – Clutched in the Maw of the World
DeluxeHandcrafted 7″x 5″ Case & Glass Mastered CD / Limited to 150 Hand-numbered Editions / Download code 'Clutched in the Maw of the World', the second full-length album from Alder & Ash, is as much maximal as it is minimal. It punctuates periods of barren calm with thunder and screams, before creeping back to the silence and the dusk. The album is comprised entirely of cello. 'Clutched...' combines traditional classical modalities with gnarled, heavily treated modern techniques to devastating affect. Glass, wood, rain, stone and air are all present in the music, from the crystalline notes of the "Merciless Dawn" to the unyielding crashes and lumbering slabs of distorted rhythm of "A Seat Amongst God and His Children." Alder & Ash treads on the experimental fringes of modern classical, perhaps too abrasive to play nice with the coy melodrama of the scene. Yet, the music has enough grit to take hold of lovers of doom, noise, and the like, perhaps winning over new fans of cello music from even the most hardened black metal die-hards.£15.00 -
Alder & Ash – Psalms for the Sunder
DeluxeHandcrafted 7"x 5" Case & Glass Mastered CD / Limited to 150 Hand-numbered Editions / Download code 'Psalms for the Sunder' thrives in opposing extremes. As the title suggests, 'Psalms for the Sunder' is a study of downfall and collapse. The work explores the boundaries, the desolation and despair, among the edges of things come undone. In that tension and space it finds not only cacophony, violence and decay, but also bittersweetness and calm. If all this sounds a bit intense, you may do well to just have a listen or duck out now. As this is not the safe path to Yo-Yo-Ma style laments, gracefully pondering some past love affair. ‘Psalms...’ takes a far more rugged approach, an ugly retelling of the human condition, utilizing the cello not only for its beauty, but also for its aggressively commanding sensibilities.£15.00 -
Thet Liturgiske Owäsendet – Wisconsin Mining State
TapeThe Rust Belt refers to a largely-deindustrialized portion of the United States surrounding the Great Lakes. Once a powerhouse of manufacturing, the region is now known for being a poster child of economic decline, and perhaps swinging a presidential election. Thet Liturgiske Owäsende are Swedish experimentalists Linus Schrab and Johan Fotmeijer, and their Wisconsin Mining State release sonically explores the sparseness and melancholy of small towns in this region. In fact, four of the six tracks are titled after mining towns with populations of less than 2000 each. Using synths, guitars, and field recordings, Schrab and Fotmeijer provide drones with mechanical rhythms and pulsing bass, evoking post-industrial soundscapes – a place where the machines have largely shut down, but occasionally fire up for a few minutes at a time. Platteville begins with a slowly repeating drone melody that grows and ebbs with lightly-distorted walls. Hazel Green offers dark ambient atmospherics interspersed with ominous crescendos. Iron Ridge consists of oscillating drones and a sparse, repeating bass line. Klar Piquett features throbbing, distorted walls. Mineral Point, perhaps my favorite track, is dominated by a start/stop mechanical cadence overlaid with varied percussive patterns. Rajah is a more traditional spacious, ambient drone, and somewhat out of place compared to its companion tracks.£8.50 -

Taylor Deupree – Somi
CD, DeluxeThe release comes packaged as a deluxe CD inside a 20-page hardbound book of Deupree’s photographs that inspired the creation of the music... For the music, made with a small number of instruments (electric piano, glockenspiel, DX7, handheld cassette recorder) Deupree originally set out to create a follow-up to his classic album Stil.. Steeped in subtle repetition and soft electronic sound, Stil. explored themes of time and change. However, Stil. was created with purely electronic means - software synthesizers and looping algorithms which explored the then-novel frontier of DSP based “microsound.” With a strong desire to bring the aesthetics of Stil. to his current way of working Deupree used no software or automatic looping, instead opting for the imperfections of creating “loops” by hand. The result is warm and quietly decayed work of spare, discreet tones and dozens of interwoven slow polyrhythms that create repetitions that constantly fall apart and shuffle themselves back together. While these ideas of phase relationships are not new in music, nor to Deupree’s catalogue of work, it was the way he approached the composing that was different, and more challenging, than his work in the past. Wrapped up warmly in the sonics of cassette players and cheap built-in speakers, Somi’s dusty melodies sit quietly, but uneasily, and question the passing of time and present one of Deupree’s most alluring albums to date.£20.00 -

With eyes closed, one can easily imagine heavy rusted spires rising and collapsing upon themselves, only to be rebuilt from the rubble in the same instant, ever clawing towards the sky, with the rumblings of massive tectonic plates shifting below. Irving Park – 3 5 1
3"Pre-order: Release date 01.06.17 Each copy of this beautiful album will be completely unique from the next including dusty Bartholomew clothbound maps, circa 1880-1940. With each listener being in the possession of a map, treasures are waiting to be unearthed. As such, '5 2 1' takes the listener on a deeply personal journey which mirrors the very subjectivity of music; each and every listener will experience it differently. Life echoes into the music, because the journey is what ultimately matters, the invaluable experiences shaping the record for all of its days to come, and navigation is never a straight forward thing! A complete / unique vintage (very rare) Bartholomew's clothbound foldout map, 3 x hand stamped three inch CDs housed in coloured seethrough covers, set of three Gerald Leslie prints pressed on luxury 250g gesso card stock, vintage roll-bell bus tickets individually numbered to represent the number of each CD edition. All of the above rests inside stitched / sealed / numbered vintage brown waxed bags with scent. These little beauties really are completely unique 'one off limited editions'.£20.00
